Media Journalism – Problems and Prospects

A Way out of the Journalism Crisis via Self-Criticism?

MESSAGE, the international journalism magazine, is hosting this conference on the occasion of its 10th anniversary. The aim is to give media journalists, researchers, and interested citizens an opportunity to discuss and reflect on the following issues:

The keynote will be given by Mike Hoyt, editor-in-chief of the leading U.S. media magazine Columbia Journalism Review. Well-known media journalists and researchers from all over Europe will participate on panel discussions. Besides Hans Werner Kilz (editor-in-chief of Süddeutsche Zeitung and other members of the advisory board of “MESSAGE”, Kuno Haberbusch (NDR, formerly Zapp), Volker Lilienthal ( Hamburg University, formerly epd medien), Stefan Niggemeier (freelance journalist and blogger), Thomas Leif (Netzwerk Recherche), Steffen Eßbach (NDR Zapp), Kai-Hinrich Renner (Hamburger Abendblatt), Steffen Grimberg (taz), Stephan Ruß-Mohl (European Journalism Observatory, Lugano), Susanne Fengler (Dortmund Technical University) and Hans-Jürgen Jakobs (online editor-in-chief of Süddeutsche Zeitung), will be among the speakers.

The conference starts on Thursday 29 April 2010 at 3.00 pm and ends on Friday 30 April 2010 at 5.00 pm. The conference takes place at the “Mediencampus Villa Ida”, Poetenweg 28 in Leipzig.

MESSAGE is organising the conference in cooperation with the Erich-Brost-Institute (Dortmund Technical University), the European Journalism Observatory (Lugano), the Institute for Practical Journalism Research and Netzwerk Recherche; with fsuppport from the Media Foundation of the Sparkasse Leipzig.
